Abstract:
A digital camera (10) comprises a CCD imager (16). The CCD imager (16) outputs an image signal corresponding to an optical image. The amount of light entering the CCD imager (16) is limited by a diaphragm unit (14). A CPU (40) adjusts the exposure time of the CCD imager (16) according to the average luminance value of a normal evaluation area defined in the central portion of the screen out of the image signal outputted from the CCD imager (16) and adjusts the aperture value of the diaphragm unit (14) according to the average luminance value of a specific evaluation area defined in the periphery of the screen out of the image signal outputted from the CCD imager (16).
