Abstract:

In an electronic device and an operation method of the electronic device according to various embodiments, the electronic device comprises: a mmWave antenna module comprising a plurality of antennas; a camera capable of measuring a distance between an external object and the electronic device; a communication processor; and an application processor, wherein the application processor may be configured to: check communication performance of the mmWave antenna module; determine whether to change a direction of a beam formed by the mmWave antenna module, on the basis of a result of checking the communication performance; measure, by using the camera, the distance between the external object and the electronic device, and the location of the external object; determine an area to perform beam searching from among beam coverages, which are areas capable of outputting the beam formed by the mmWave antenna module, on the basis of the location of the external object and the distance between the external object and the electronic device; control the communication processor to perform beam searching in the determined area; and control the communication processor to change the direction of the beam formed by the mmWave antenna module, on the basis of a result of performing beam searching.
