An electronic device according to various embodiments comprises: a display comprising a main display area and at least one expandable display area expandable from the main display area; a communication module; and a processor operatively connected to the display and the communication module. The processor can be set to: display first content on the main display area in a state where the at least one expandable display area is not expanded; establish a connection with an external device by means of the communication module; determine a first area and a second area in which the first content and second content, based on information received from the external device by means of the communication module, are to be respectively displayed in a state where the at least one display area is expanded; and display the first content on the determined first area and the second content on the determined second area when the at least one expandable display area is expanded. Various other embodiments are possible.
