Abstract:
According to various embodiments, an electronic device may comprise: a battery; a universal serial bus (USB) connector; a power delivery integrated chip (PDIC) connected to the USB connector and performing power delivery (PD) communication with an external electronic device; a first charging circuit corresponding to a first charging type; a second charging circuit corresponding to a second charging type; and a processor operatively connected to the USB connector, the PDIC, the first charging circuit, and the second charging circuit, wherein the processor is configured to: during a connection with the external electronic device through the USB connector, identify whether the external electronic device supports the first charging type and supports the second charging type, on the basis of a role of the electronic device, determined as a source, via the PD communication; when the external electronic device supports the first charging type and does not support the second charging type, transmit first power to the external electronic device on the basis of a fixed first voltage and/or first current by using the first charging circuit; and when the external electronic device supports the first charging type and the second charging type, transmit second power to the external electronic device on the basis of a second voltage and/or a second current obtained through negotiation with the external electronic device, by using the second charging circuit.
