Abstract:
An electronic key system comprises: a key location determination unit (21, 22) that determines the location of an electronic key in reference to the location of a transmission antenna (22a) that transmits at least one of a plurality of request signals; a ranging request unit (24) that is provided in one of an on-board device and the electronic key, that sends a ranging request signal, and that receives a ranging response signal to the ranging request signal; and a ranging response unit (15) that is provided in the other of the on-board device and the electronic key, that receives the ranging request signal, and that sends the ranging response signal in response to the ranging request signal. During determination of propriety, the electronic key system determines that legitimate communication has been performed on the basis of conditions including that the measured distance from the ranging request unit to the ranging response unit measured on the basis of the ranging request signal and the ranging response signal is within a threshold range that is set on the basis of the distance from the communication area of the transmission antenna where the electronic key is determined to be located by the key location determination unit to one of either the ranging request unit or the ranging response unit that is provided in the on-board device.
