This capacitance element (variable capacitance element (1)) comprises: a capacitance element main body (2) comprising a dielectric layer, and at least one pair of internal electrodes (10) formed having the dielectric layer sandwiched therebetween; and external terminals (3, 4) formed on a side surface of the capacitance element main body (2), and electrically connected to an internal electrode (10). In addition, the capacitance element is configured such that stress generated as a result of the difference between the linear expansion coefficients of the dielectric layer (5) and the internal electrodes is concentrated at the center of a capacitor (C) configured by the dielectric layer (5) and the pair of internal electrodes (10) having the dielectric layer (5) sandwiched therebetween.
