Abstract:
An elevator provided with a winch in a bottom portion of a hoistway, wherein a straight inter-rail line, which connects a pair of cage guide rails together, in a horizontal plane of projection passes the center of gravity of the cage or a position in the vicinity thereof, a straight line in the same plane which connects a pair of cage suspension wheels being inclined with respect to the straight inter-rail line so as to cross the same in the center of gravity of the cage or a position in the vicinity thereof, the winch being set so that the axis thereof extending in the longitudinal direction thereof is inclined in the same plane in the same direction as the suspension wheel connecting straight line with respect to the straight inter-rail line, whereby a maintenance area is provided on that side of the winch which is closer to the suspension wheel connecting straight line.
