Abstract:
The present invention provides an emergency braking device for an escalator, whereby the braking force applied to a main shaft when a ratchet pawl comes in contact with teeth can be further increased as the main shaft rotates relative to the teeth, and the structure of the ratchet pawl can be simplified. This emergency braking device for an escalator is provided with a ratchet wheel provided to a main shaft, the ratchet wheel having a wheel body, a boss fixed to the main shaft, and a rotation braking part for braking rotation of the boss relative to the wheel body, the rotation braking part having a friction member which is provided to the wheel body and which contacts the side surface of the boss, and the friction member being disposed so that the area of the side surface of the boss that is contacted by the friction member increases as the boss rotates relative to the wheel body.
