Abstract:
An NO¿x? occlusion reduction type catalyst having a saturation NO¿x? occlusion amount of at least 5 g per liter of catalyst volume in terms of NO¿2? at 500°C is used to control a rich spike so that an actual NO¿x? occlusion amount of the NO¿x? occlusion reduction type catalyst is up to 50% of a saturation NO¿x? occlusion amount. Because of a large saturation NO¿x? occlusion amount, an NO¿x? occlusion amount, even if up to 50%, is large so as to provide larger rich spike intervals. In addition, NO¿x? can be preferentially occluded in a site where an NO¿x? occlusion material is easy to occlude and release to enhance a reduction efficiency. Therefore, an NO¿x? reduction efficiency can be enhanced while maintaining a fuel efficiency effect by increasing rich spike intervals.
