Abstract:

Provided is an exhaust gas purification catalyst in which the capability of the catalytic metal is exhibited in an appropriate manner and which exhibits excellent purification capability when the internal combustion engine is warmed up. Said exhaust gas purification catalyst (10) is provided with a base material (1) and a catalyst layer. At the leading end (1a), which is located upstream in the exhaust gas flow direction (arrow), there are: a region in which exhaust gas flow is relatively high when the internal combustion engine is warmed up; and a region in which exhaust gas flow is relatively low. In the catalyst layer of said region of relatively high exhaust gas flow, there is a high density section (6) in which a precious metal is loaded at a relatively high density. The high density section (6) is formed to be shorter than the entire length of the exhaust gas purification catalyst (10) from the leading end (1a) in the exhaust gas flow direction.
