Abstract:
The present invention provides an exhaust gas purification catalyst in which an alkaline earth metal is supported on a porous support in a highly dispersed state. The exhaust gas purification catalyst provided by the present invention is characterized in that: a catalyst layer therein has an alkaline earth metal support region comprising a porous support, Pt, and at least one alkaline earth metal sulfate supported by the porous support; a cross-section of the aforementioned region is subjected to surface analysis using FE-EPMA under conditions such that the pixel size is 0.34 μm × 0.34 μm and the number of measurement pixels is 256 × 256; the intensity (α: cps) of characteristic X-rays of an alkaline earth metal element (Ae) and the intensity (β: cps) of characteristic X-rays of Pt are measured with respect to each pixel; and the Pearson correlation coefficient RAe/Pt value calculated using the resulting α and β of each pixel is 0.5 or higher.
