Abstract:
Provided is a feedstock with which it is possible to produce a low-CTE, low-puffing needle coke. A modified feedstock for needle coke characterized in that the PDQI value calculated by equation (1) is 2-14, the ratio (HNα/Hα) of α-naphthene hydrogen (HNα) to α-position hydrogen (Hα) measured by 1H-NMR is 0.10-0.60, and the aromatic index fa is 0.50-0.90. Equation (1): PDQI = H% × 10 × (HNβ/H) (where H% is the amount of hydrogen determined by elemental analysis, and HNβ/H is the ratio of β-naphthene hydrogen and total hydrogen measured by 1H-NMR)
