[Problem] There is a risk that when a blade comes into contact with a placement surface when forming an initial flaw using the blade on an optical fiber placed on a placement stage, the placement surface may be damaged, preventing, as a result, the initial flaw from being formed as expected when the optical fiber is being cut. [Solution] A fiber cutter (10) of the present disclosure is provided with a placement stage (30) on which an optical fiber (1) is placed, and a cutting tool unit (40). The cutting tool unit (40) has a blade (41) for forming an initial flaw on the optical fiber (1), and the cutting tool unit (40) can be moved in a movement direction that is the direction in which the blade (41) is moved towards or away from the placement stage (30). The placement stage (30) has a stopper (32) for preventing the blade (41) from coming into contact with a placement surface (31) on which the optical fiber (1) is placed.
