Abstract:
A fiber and a film comprising a block copolymer represented by general formula (1) and having a weight-average molecular weight of 25,000 to 500,000, wherein R represents hydrogen or methyl; 1 represents a number of 1 or above; and m, m', n and n' are the same or different and each represents 0 or a number of 1 or above, provided that m + m' is not 0 and n + n' is not 0. When processed into a monofilament, the block copolymer has a sufficient flexibility and thus is usable as a bioabsorbable surgical suture. Also when processed into a film, it has a sufficient strength. Also, it has an excellent biocompatibility and the effect of preventing cell adhesion, which makes it usable as a cell adhesion inhibitor (membrane).
