Abstract:
Provided are: a water-repellent fiber which has linear irregularities on the surface thereof and thereby exhibits extremely excellent water repellency even without water repellant finishing and which also exhibits excellent dyeability; and a process for manufacturing the water-repellent fiber easily and stably. This water-repellent fiber is a polymer alloy fiber which comprises a dyeable polymer (A) and a water-repellent or hydrophobic polymer (B) and has a sea-island structure and which is characterized by satisfying the relationship (i): R ≥ 674.15 × e-0.0462
×M [wherein M is the abundance ratio of the water-repellent or hydrophobic polymer (B) exposed on the surface of the fiber, and R is the arithmetic mean roughness of the linear irregularities formed in the longitudinal direction of the fiber].
