Abstract:
The present invention prevents the generation of errors when converting signed and unsigned fixed-point numbers. A converting unit (data converting unit 20) converts a signed fixed-point number in two's complement notation, of which the most significant digit and the least significant digit are respectively represented by 2Mi and 2Li using integers Mi and Li, and an unsigned fixed-point number, of which the most significant digit and the least significant digit are respectively represented by 2Mu and 2Lu using integers Mu and Lu, into extended signed fixed-point numbers, which are signed fixed-point numbers in two's complement notation, of which the most significant digit and the least significant digit are respectively represented by 2M and 2L using M and L, which satisfy the formulas M=max(1, max(Mi, Mu+1)) and L=min(0, min(Li, Lu)). Further, when converting the signed fixed-point number, the converting unit (data converting unit 20) performs sign extension in insufficient high-order digits, and substitutes a value of zero into insufficient lower-order digits, and when converting the unsigned fixed-point number, substitutes a value of zero into insufficient high-order digits and lower-order digits.
