Title:
FLAT AERODYNAMICAL PROJECTILE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/004017
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The design of a Flat Aerodynamic Projectile was generally aimed to increase performance of the traditional round and cylindrical projectile and specifically to increase flight range, destruction ability, and all other round projectile disadvantages.

Claims

I strongly claim the new over all design of the Flat Aerodynamic projectile illustrated in plans one and two in Description of Drawings. In addition, the implementation of this flat design in different military equipment, including but not limited to, rocket launchers, missiles and underground missiles, guided bombs and airplane fuel tanks.

Description:

Title of the invention:

Flat Aerodynamic Projectile Technical field

Thinking and imagining out of a given circle, a bird view of an existing shape or design, can sometimes redirect the concept into a completely new idea.

Certain designs were reserved for centuries, some of which, completely unrelated to the design efficiency. It's only a typical human being behavior where the brain is coded using the five senses, to always relate a given abject with a certain shape.

Such restricted views, buries the possibilities to advance and narrows the way towards a different, efficient future.

For centuries, artillery shells were always associated with round cylindrical shapes.

Development and research in that particular field mainly altered the composition of such shells, and/or slight additions in the typical design.

I achieved to surpass those limitations and to design a total transformation of a traditional concept, overcoming the current visual understanding of round or cylindrical shaped shells.

I herby introduce the Flat Aerodynamic Projectile (refer to plan 1 and 2 in the description of drawings).

Technical background

I looked into the limitations and dynamics of the current round or cylindrical shaped projectile from different perspectives. Several disadvantages in relation to this traditional design were noted: a) Limited flight range b) Lack of projectile stability c) The difficulty in the production of large and big projectile. d) Storage, transport and handling difficulties associated with the unstable and space consuming round and/or cylindrical shape.

Disclosure and Description of the invention

The idea behind the Flat Projectile is to overcome the above mentioned disadvantages related to the old concept and to improve performance, flight range, target detection, speed, payload, and efficiency of the future projectile.

The new design adds to the projectile (regular- ballistic), a flat and oval surface, as illustrated in plan one and two, Description of Drawings.

The advantages of such a transformation are:

- Increased flight time which intern would lead to an increased flight range. The flat shape increases the surface of the projectile thus it will act like an airplane wing (up-draft of the wind). The up draft of the wind provides less drag for the projectile and extends the trajectory by providing a gliding phase for the projectile. - Increased performance through increased kinetic energy - Less drag of the projectile meaning higher energy of the projectile - The flat shape of the projectile provides a smaller profile. This effect is an advantage for some applications, i.e. for airplane applications. - Storage, transportation and handling of the projectile is made easier, and improved because of the flat shape. - The flat shape will increase the destruction ability of the projectile due to an increased capacity in carrying explosive material. - The flat shape of the projectile does not require a large propulsion force during launching thus a cutback in the propulsion system is achieved which in turn can be used in the flying faze to give additional flight range. - The flat shape of the projectile makes it less detectable and harder to notice via ground and or projectile radars. - The flat shape grants the projectile a decreased noise level during launch or flight which intern disguises the projectile to provide an element of surprise. 0- The flat projectile does not require a high launching angle and does not follow the traditional projectile system.
