Abstract:
Disclosed is a flat device for displaying data that comprises a matrix of display elements with passive or active addressing based on a film system with a flat autoemission cathode, as well as a screen with a cathodoluminescent coating. The device is comprised of a front panel with an anode having a cathodoluminescent coating, and of a rear panel which is separated by a vacuum gap from the front one and supports a flat-film autoemission cathode as well as two groups of intersecting control electrodes. The cathode and the control electrodes are separated by a dielectric film. In order for the electrons to pass from the cathode to the anode, the control electrodes and dielectric films have orifices forming a channel in which the electron flow is controlled by means of control electrodes. The geometric size of the orifices in the dielectric films is larger than that in the film-type control electrodes. The contacts of all the electrodes in the device are located on one rear panel. The gap separating the panels is maintained by supporting elements from the front panel. On the flat film autoemission cathode, the film coating from which the electron emission occurs is situated on part of the surface of a conducting film layer. The coating from which the electron emission occurs is preferably made of a material with a negative affinity to the electron, such as a diamond-like carbon film.
