Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or food composition for the treatment or prevention of hypertension comprising, as an active ingredient, peptides isolated from fractions of hydrolysates of flatfish paste. It was confirmed that flatfish paste has an effect of lowing blood pressure, and hydrolysates of the flatfish paste, fractions from the hydrolysates of the flatfish paste and peptides isolated from the fractions have angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity. Therefore, the peptides isolated from the fractions of the hydrolysates of the flatfish paste may be used in a pharmaceutical composition or food composition for treating or preventing hypertension. In addition, the present invention has confirmed that the hydrolysates of the flatfish paste and the peptides isolated therefrom have a radical scavenging effect and a protective effect against oxidative stress, and inhibit ROS generation, lipid peroxidation and cell death. Therefore, the peptides isolated from the fractions of the hydrolysates of the flatfish paste can be used in an anti-oxidative food composition.
