Abstract:
Provided are a flow rate sensor and a flow rate detection method which make it possible to detect the flow rate of fluid in a wide flow rate range. A flow rate sensor 10 for detecting the flow rate of water in a water pipe 2 is provided with a detection unit 100 having: bodies 210, 310 that can be deformed upon reception of pressure of fluid; and sensor units 220, 320 that detect the deformation amounts of the bodies 210, 310. The bodies 210, 310 have: deformation parts 212, 312 to which the sensor units 220, 320 are provided; and pressure reception parts 213, 313 that deform the deformation parts 212, 312 upon reception of pressure of fluid. The detection unit 100 includes a high-sensitivity detection unit 200 and a low-sensitivity detection unit 300. The ratio of a pressure reception area of the pressure reception part 213 of the high-sensitivity detection unit 200 with respect to the rigidity of the deformation part 212 of the high-sensitivity detection unit 200 is larger than the ratio of a pressure reception area of the pressure reception part 313 of the low-sensitivity detection unit 300 with respect to the rigidity of the deformation part 312 of the low-sensitivity detection unit 300.
