Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to provide a fluorescence light source device, wherein, when a fluorescent member having a periodic structure body layer formed on the surface thereof is irradiated with excitation light, a rise in temperature of the fluorescent member is suppressed and reflection of the excitation light is suppressed, while allowing the fluorescence arising inside the fluorescent member to be used effectively and sent out with high efficiency, and, consequently, obtaining a high light-emission efficiency. Also provided is a production method for the device. This fluorescence light source device is characterized by: the inclusion of a fluorescent member made from a phosphor comprising a monocrystal or a polycrystal that is excited by excitation light; the formation, on the surface of the fluorescent member, of a periodic structure body layer comprising a high refractive index material having a refractive index greater than or equal to the value of the refractive index of the fluorescent member; the periodic structure body layer having a surface wherein a periodic structure has been formed by an etching process, comprising periodically arranged protruding portions shaped into cones or shaped into truncated cones; and an aspect ratio, which is the ratio of the height of the protruding portions over the period in the periodic structure, in the range of 0.5 to 0.9.
