The present invention provides: a fluorine-containing ether composition which is capable of imparting the surface of a base material with excellent water repellency and oil repellency, and which enables the formation of a surface layer that has wear resistance with respect to water repellency and oil repellency, while being suppressed in dissolution of the constituents into a solvent; a coating liquid which contains this fluorine-containing ether composition; an article which has a surface layer that is formed with use of the fluorine-containing ether composition or the coating liquid; and a method for producing the article. A fluorine-containing ether composition that contains: a compound A which has a poly(oxyfluoroalkylene) chain and a group wherein a hydrolyzable group and/or a hydroxyl group is bonded to a silicon atom; and a compound B which has a poly(oxyfluoroalkylene) chain and a carbon-carbon double bond at an end, and which does not have a group wherein a hydrolyzable group and/or a hydroxyl group is bonded to a silicon atom. This fluorine-containing ether composition is characterized in that the compound B is contained in an amount of 0.25-0.40 mole per 1 mole of the compound A.
