Abstract:
An energy storage apparatus (10) for a vehicle having a housing (18) resiliently mounted in the vehicle, a first plurality of flywheels (20) rotatable about a first axis within the housing (18), a second plurality of flywheels (22) rotatable about a second axis within the housing (18), a third pluraltiy of flywheels (24) rotatable about a third axis within the housing (18), an energy input mechanism (88 or 90 or 92) connected to at least one of the flywheels for initiating and maintaining rotation movement of the flywheels, and an output mechanism (96) for converting the rotation of the flywheels into potential energy. Each of the first (20), second (22) and third pairs (24) are rotatable in opposite directions and each of the axis are perpendicular to each other.
