Provided is a foamed electric wire having a foamed layer and a non-foamed layer as an insulating coating, the foamed electric wire having both excellent flexibility and mechanical strength, and also provided is a method for manufacturing such a foamed electric wire.　This foamed electric wire 1 comprises a conductor 2 and an insulating coating 3. The insulating coating 3 has: a foamed layer 32 having a foamed structure; and a coating layer that is integrally continuous with the foamed layer 32 and is constituted of at least one of an inner layer 31 disposed inward of the foamed layer 32 and in contact with the conductor 2, and an outer layer 33 disposed around the periphery of the foamed layer 32 and exposed at the outermost periphery of the insulating coating 3 as a whole. The insulating coating 3 includes a first organic polymer and a second organic polymer having less of a crystalline component and less solidification heat than the first organic polymer. The coating layers 31, 33 have a lower content ratio of the second organic polymer to the first organic polymer and a lower foaming rate compared to the foamed layer 32.
