Provided is a foil transfer device capable of preventing foil from being transferred onto a portion of a sheet other than a transfer region thereof. This foil transfer device overlaps a sheet S on a foil film F containing foil to transfer the foil onto an image on the sheet S. The foil transfer device comprises: a heating roller 61; a pressing roller 51 for nipping and conveying the foil film F and the sheet S between the pressing roller 51 and the heating roller 61; a releasing member (second guiding shaft 42) that changes the traveling direction of the foil film F to release, from the sheet S, the foil film F having passed through a gap between the heating roller 61 and the pressing roller 51; a press-contact/separation mechanism that moves the heating roller 61 between a press-contact position, at which the heating roller 61 is press-contacted with the pressing roller 51, and a separated position, at which the heating roller 61 is separated from the pressing roller 51; and a control unit. Before a rear end A2 of a transfer region that has been set for the transfer of the foil in the sheet S reaches the release member after passing through the gap between the heating roller 61 and the pressing roller 51, the control unit controls the press-contact/separation mechanism to move the heating roller 61 to the separated position.
