Abstract:
Provided are a folding device and folding method that can fold a sheet precisely even when the sheet thickness or tension applied to the sheet are changed. A folding device comprises a folding mechanism that forms a first folding line (B1) that extends from one end of a sheet (S1) in the width direction, a second folding line (B2) that extends from the other end (S12) of the sheet (S1) in the width direction so as to be inclined toward an end of the first folding line (B1), and a third folding line (B3) for reversing the front and back of a portion of the sheet (S1) in the width direction so that a portion of the sheet (S1), folded on the second folding line (B2), in the width direction overlaps with another portion. The folding mechanism comprises a second folding member (11) that has a second folding line forming unit (19a) for forming the second folding line (B2). The second folding member (11) is mounted to a transporting mechanism (2) so that the second folding line forming unit (19a) can move with respect to the locations where the first folding line (B1) and the third folding line (B3) are formed.
