Abstract:
An apparatus for moving an object forward and reversely reliably and smoothly along a linear or smoothly curved predetermined path by driving a non-ring-shaped open-end roller chain forward and reversely. This apparatus is used optimally, especially for opening and closing (expanding and contracting) an expansible hood of the platform of a truck. A sprocket for applying a driving force to the roller chain is provided in the vicinity of the entrance of a travelling guide adapted to guide the travelling of the leading end of the non-ring-shaped roller chain. Close to the sprocket, an inner guide contacting links of the roller chain from the side closer to the rotating shaft of the sprocket, and an outer guide contacting the links or rollers of the roller chain from the side farther from the shaft are provided. The ends of the inner and outer guides which are on the travelling guide side are parallel to an extension of the travelling guide. A support post for an end of the expansible hood is joined to the leading end of the roller chain.
