Abstract:
A free piston type refrigerator comprises a pressure container 17, a free piston that is housed in the pressure container 17 and that is capable of reciprocal motion in the axial direction, and an orientation changing mechanism 20 that changes the orientation of the free piston by way of rotating the pressure container 17 around at least one axis of rotation shaft in a direction other than the axial direction. The free piston type refrigerator may further comprise a cooling stage 13a provided in the pressure container 17, and a flexible heat transfer unit connecting the cooling stage 13a to an object to be cooled.
