Abstract:
A friction brake device (10) has: a brake rotor (20) that has friction surfaces (20S, 22S) and rotates around an axis of rotation (18); rotary friction members (50, 54) that are capable of rotating around axes of rotation (52, 56) that are parallel to the aforementioned axis of rotation; and a pressing device (34) that presses pressing members (14, 16) against the rotary friction members, and presses the rotary friction members against the friction surfaces. The brake rotor, rotary friction members, and the pressing members constitute planetary gear mechanisms (74, 76) that utilize the rotary friction members as planetary gears. The rotary friction members frictionally engage with the friction surfaces and the pressing members, and a pressing force boosting mechanism (46), which converts a relative rotating torque to a pressing force, is disposed between the pressing members and a non-rotating member (16).
