Abstract:
A fuel injection system improves fuel ignitability of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine. The fuel injection system has a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel directly into a cylinder of the engine and also has swirl generation means for generating a swirl in the cylinder. The fuel injection valve performs a main fuel injection and multiple auxiliary fuel injections at earlier timings than the main fuel injection. The lower the atmospheric pressure is, the lower the coolant temperature is, or the lower the intake air temperature is, the shorter the intervals between the auxiliary fuel injections is set and the shorter the interval between the last auxiliary fuel injection and the main fuel injection is set.
