Abstract:
The present invention is a gas generator that has a first combustion chamber, a second combustion chamber, and a plenum chamber within a housing which has a top panel, a bottom plate, and a peripheral wall portion with a gas exhaust port. The first combustion chamber is disposed on the top panel side. The second combustion chamber is disposed on the bottom plate side. The plenum chamber is disposed between the first combustion chamber and the second combustion chamber and faces the gas exhaust port. A first ignitor for igniting and burning a first gas generating agent stored within the first combustion chamber and a second ignitor for igniting and burning a second gas generating agent stored within the second combustion chamber are mounted on the bottom plate. The first combustion chamber is formed from a space which is enclosed by an inner cylinder, a first annular retainer, and the top plate. The plenum chamber is formed from a space which is enclosed by the inner cylinder, the first annular retainer, the housing peripheral wall portion with the gas exhaust port, and a second annular retainer. The second combustion chamber is formed from a space which is enclosed by the inner cylinder, the second annular retainer, the housing peripheral wall portion, and the bottom plate.
