This gas generator (1) is configured such that: a combustion chamber (20) in which an igniter (15) and a gas generating agent (21) are accommodated is disposed within a cylindrical housing (10); and a diffuser (40) having a gas discharge opening (42a) for discharging combustion gas generated in the combustion chamber (20) is connected to the cylindrical housing (10). The diffuser (40) is cup-shaped and has: a bottom surface (41); a peripheral wall (42) having the gas discharge opening (42a); and an opening (43). The diffuser (40) has disposed therein a cylindrical filter (60) which covers the gas discharge opening (42a) from the inside. The cylindrical filter (60) is configured such that a first annular end surface (61a) is in contact with the bottom surface (41) of the diffuser (40), and a second annular end surface (61b) located on the side axially opposite the first annular end surface (61a) is provided so as to be located on the opening (43) side of the diffuser (40). The cylindrical filter (60) has: an annular sloped surface (62) extended obliquely inward from the first annular end surface (61a); and a trapping space (65) surrounded by the bottom surface (41) of the diffuser (40) and by the annular sloped surface (62) and trapping combustion residues contained in combustion gas.
