Abstract:
A gas sensor 10 comprising a sensor element 20, green compacts 45a, 45b, and insulators 44a–44c. The sensor element 20 comprises an element main body 60, an upper connector electrode 71, a porous layer 80, and a first water incursion suppression section 91. The first water incursion suppression section 91: is arranged on the first surface 60a so as to split the porous layer 80 along the longitudinal direction of the element main body 60 or be positioned further on the rear end side than the porous layer 80; is positioned further on the front end side than the upper connector electrode 71; and has an overlapping distance W of at least 0.5 mm, said overlapping distance being the length of a section that continues on from a region in the front rear direction and region in the front rear direction of the inner circumferential surface 44b1 of the insulator 44b. The first water incursion suppression section 91: has at least a first dense layer 92, out of the first dense layer 92 which has a porosity of less than 10% and a first gap area 93 not having the porous layer 80 present therein; and suppresses the capillary action of water along the longitudinal direction.
