Abstract:
A gear shift controller for an automatic transmission (16), provided with a memory means (3) which is adapted to store the relation between the degree of opening of an accelerator and a vehicle speed, at which gearing up is to be started. The above relation is set with a gearing point moved so that, when the degree of opening of the accelerator is not higher than a predetermined value, the gearing up is carried out at a predetermined high vehicle speed. An arithmetic means (14) is adapted to compute a variation rate of the degree of opening of the accelerator on the basis of a detected signal from a detector (12) which is adapted to detect the degree of opening of the accelerator. A prohibitor means (15) is adapted to prohibit gearing up when a variation rate of the degree of opening of the accelerator computed by the arithmetic means (14) is not lower than a predetermined value.
