Abstract:
In order to obtain a lightweight glass bulb having high safety and reliability by chemical reinforcement ensuring a compression stress layer of effective thickness even for a high tensile vacuum stress, a fractural region of low mechanical strength on the outer surface at at least the body section (4) of a glass funnel where a maximum tensile vacuum stress is generated is partially reinforced chemically through combination of a field assist method and a paste chemical reinforcing method thus providing in that region a chemically reinforced part (9), where the concentration of implanted ions is distributed inward from the surface substantially according to a step function.
