A grass cutting machine comprises an extension rod (20), a housing (25), a grass cutting head (22), handles (23, 24), a main motor (26), and a main switch (27). The grass cutting head (22) comprises an accommodating seat (28), a cover (30), and a wire coil (32). The wire coil (32) has a first state that is static relative to the accommodating seat (28). The grass cutting machine further comprises a pay-off mechanism. The pay-off mechanism comprises a pay-off electronic switch (40) independent of the main switch (27), and a control device. The pay-off electronic switch (40) electrically controls in an operable manner the control device to make the wire coil (32) in a second state with a rotation speed difference relative to the accommodating seat (28). An operator can carry out pay-off operation whenever required without interrupting the work of the grass cutting machine, and the pay-off operation is simple and convenient.
