The present application provides a handover method and a communication apparatus. The handover method comprises: a terminal device receives configuration information of a first candidate cell group from a first distributed unit (DU), the configuration information of the first candidate cell group comprising configuration information of a first cell and identifier information of the first candidate cell group corresponding to the first cell; the terminal device sends a measurement result of the first candidate cell group to the first DU; the terminal device receives a handover command from the first DU, wherein the handover command comprises the identifier information of the first candidate cell group; and the terminal device is handed over to the first cell according to the identifier information of the first candidate cell group. By means of the handover method, after reporting a measurement result to a source DU, a terminal device can perform cell handover according to a handover command of the source DU, so that the efficiency of cell handover of the terminal device can be improved.
