Abstract:

A head-mounted display device which forms a virtual magnified image of a picture formed by means of a picture display section. The display device has a virtual image forming optical system (3) provided with the picture display section (9) and a lens (11) for forming a virtual magnified image of a picture formed by the section (9), a device main body (1) which houses the optical system (3), and switching means which is fitted to the main body (1), holds the system (3) in such a way that the system (3) can be moved in parallel to the line passing through the right and left eyes of the user, and positions the system (3) in front of either the left or right eye. The section (9) and the lens (11) are so disposed that the optical axis of the system (3) is nearly aligned with the line of sight of the user when the user views the horizon. The user can easily select either of his eyes for viewing the virtual image by the switching means. Therefore, the display device has both excellent versatility and shareability.
