Abstract:
This head-up display device (1) includes: a display (3), a flat mirror (4), and a concave mirror (5); and lower-phase difference plates (6, 7). The display (3), the flat mirror (4), and the concave mirror (5) direct display light representing an image to be displayed toward a vehicle windshield. The lower-phase difference plates (6, 7) are disposed along a path through which the display light passes to reach the windshield, and induce a phase difference between two mutually orthogonal polarization components in the display light. The total of the phase differences between the two polarization components in the display light induced by the lower-phase difference plates (6, 7) is less than π [rad]. The polarization direction of linear polarization in the display light changes before or after the display light passes through all the lower phase difference plates (6, 7).
