Disclosed is a heat exchanger manufacturing apparatus provided with grip members each having a grip member guide tube fitted therearound, wherein the grip members can be spaced apart by the smallest distance (pitch) which is possible without bringing adjacent grip member guide tubes into contact with each other when each grip member is aligned with one of the straight and hair pin tubes passed through the radiation fins of a heat exchanger, thus making it possible to accommodate heat exchangers reduced in size due to energy saving or cost reduction to such an extent that the straight and hair pin tubes are spaced apart by a very small distance. Specifically disclosed is a heat exchanger manufacturing apparatus (1) comprising grip members (3) for tubes passed through a heat exchanger, wherein each grip member (3) has a tube contact member (3f) capable of expanding and contracting radially in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of a tube (7), wherein the outer surface of the tube contact member (3f) has formed thereon an inclined surface (3b) widening toward the facing tube opening (7b) of the tube (7), wherein each grip member (3) is provided with a guide tube (3c) guided back and forth over the inclined surface (3b) in the longitudinal direction of the tube so as to expand and contract the tube contact member (3f) radially, and wherein the inclined surface (3b) is disposed to extend short of the leading edge (3o) of the tube contact member (3f).
