Abstract:
To optimally control a power outputted by a discharge lamp lighting apparatus
(1) for each of a plurality of connected discharge lamps (11) that exhibit different
loads because of the respective different gas components contained in the light
emitting tubes or because of the respective different shapes of the light emitting
tubes or other some reasons. There are included a plurality of output power characteristics
(W1,W2,W3) that are lamp-voltage/lamp-power data tables for a rated lamp voltage
range of the high voltage discharge lamp (11) and for a lower lamp voltage range
than the rated lamp voltage range; and a minimum lamp voltage determining means
(7) that causes a predetermined power to be outputted during activation of the
high voltage discharge lamp (11) and that determines the minimum lamp voltage
(Vmin) after transition to an arc discharge. According to within which one of
a plurality of predetermined voltage ranges (A,B,C) the determined minimum
lamp voltage (Vmin) is, the corresponding one of the lamp-voltage/lamp-power
data tables (W1,W2,W3) is selected.
