A hinge device with simple structure, excellent economic efficiency, and excellent durability and a cell phone using the hinge device, the hinge device comprising a tubular member (5), a catch (3) having engagement projected parts (38) with convex surfaces of a specified radius of curvature formed thereon, an energizing means (4), and a disk (2) having engagement recessed parts (32) engaged with the engagement projected parts and having concave surfaces of a radius of curvature larger than that of the engagement projected parts which are formed at the portions of the catch opposed to the engagement projected parts and rotatably connected to the catch, whereby the engaged state of the engagement projected parts (38) with the engagement recessed parts (32) can be maintained by the energizing force of the energizing means to fix a cover body part, and the engaged state can be released by opening and closing the cover body part against the energizing force.
