Description:
A HOLDER FOR SPHERICAL MEDICAL CUTTERS WITH A SHAFT HAVING

BOTH ANGLED AND OVAL FORM

Technological Field:

The invention relates to a holder that provides spherical formed medical bone cutters with both angular and oval formed connection shafts so as to be applied to the bone for use in hip arthroplasty surgery.

State of the Art:

Hip arthroplasty operations are one of the most performed orthopedic surgeries in the world. In the world, the market of hip arthroplasty surgeries performed in 2015 was approximately 6.5 billion dollars. It is estimated that this value will reach 9.1 billion dollars by the end of 2024, in direct proportion to the reasons such as increase in average age and obesity, population increase etc. The requirement of hand tools used in these surgeries increases directly in proportion with the increase in the number of operations performed day by day. One of the most required and used hand tools among the hand tools used in these surgeries is the spherical medical cutters that are used to form the surface where the implants will fit on the bone when they are inserted into the body. The spherical medical cutters are applied to the hip bones by the specialist by means of holding the same with the holders. In the invention of the description, a holder for spherical medical cutters with angular connection shaft is disclosed.

The spherical medical cutters are engaged with the holder by means of shafts at their rear portions. The spherical medical cutter shafts can be oval and angular (square or rectangular). For this reason, the heads of the holders that hold the spherical cutters are in round form so as to hold the cutters with oval shafts and also the cutters with angular shaft. However, in this case, the shafts of the cutters having angled shaft do not fit into the oval formed slot in the holder head. Imbalances occur during the use of the medical cutter when the shaft does not fit fully into the slot. Imbalances that occur during the use of the medical cutter are not desired conditions so that they must be eliminated. In case these misbalances are not eliminated, losses may be seen in the bone tissue where the cutter is applied. There is no holder for holding medical cutter with both angular and oval formed connection shaft. Consequently, a new holder is required to be developed to be used in spherical medical cutters having a shaft with both angled and oval form in which the state of the art is exceeded, the disadvantages are eliminated.

Brief Description of the Invention:

The invention is a new holder to be used in spherical medical cutters having a shaft with both angled and oval form in which the state of the art is exceeded, the disadvantages are eliminated and additional advantages are provided. The aim of the invention is to provide a new holder that has a connection head fitted completely into the connection shafts in the spherical medical cutters having a shaft with both angled and oval form.

Another aim of the invention is to provide a new spherical medical cutter, in which imbalances are eliminated by means of the holder it involves.

In order to fulfill all the aims mentioned above and will emerge from the detailed description below, the present invention is a holder that provides spherical formed medical bone cutters with both angled and oval formed connection shafts to be applied to the bone for use in hip arthroplasty surgery, characterized in that; it comprises the following; at least one angled slot on the connection head that allows the angular formed connection shaft of the medical cutter to fit fully, at least one oval slot on the connection head that allows the oval formed connection shaft of the medical cutter to fit fully.

Description of the Figures:

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, thus the characteristics of the invention will be understood clearly. However, the aim of this is not to limit the invention with such certain embodiments. On the contrary, it is aimed to cover all alternatives, amendments and equivalents which may be contained in the field defined by the accompanying claims. It is to be understood that the details shown are only shown for the sake of illustrating the preferred embodiments of the present invention and presented for both illustrating the methods and for providing description of the rules of the invention and the conceptual features of the invention to be easily understood. In these figures;

Description of the Invention:

In this detailed description, the inventive holder (10) is described by means of examples only for clarifying the subject manner such that no limiting effect is created. In the invention, a holder (10) that provides spherical formed medical bone cutters with both angular and oval formed connection shafts (21) to be applied to the bone for use in hip arthroplasty surgery.

In Figure 1, the perspective view of the inventive holder (10) is given. Accordingly, a holder (10) consists of a handle (11) that enables the operator to grasp manually, an arm (12) that has a form for rotating the medical cutter (20) engaged with the holder (10), and a connection head (13) to which the medical cutter (20) is engaged.

In Figure 2, a view that shows the situation wherein the inventive holder (10) is about to be connected to a medical cutter (20) is given. Accordingly, there is an angular formed connection shaft (21) in the rear part of the medical cutter (20). There are angled slots (131) on the connection head (13) of the holder (10). These angled slots housings (131) are formed in angular form so as to allow the connection shaft (21) in angular form to be fitted fully. Therefore, the imbalances between the holder (10) and the cutter (20) are eliminated. In Figure 3, a view in which the holder (10) and the medical cutter (20) are engaged is given. Flerein, the relation between the angled slot (131) on the holder (10) connection head (13) and the connection shaft (21) of the medical cutter (20) can be seen explicitly. The connection shaft (21) is fitted into the angled slot (131). The number of angled slots (131) in the connection head (13) is given as four in the figures of the invention but the number can be increased or decreased depending on the requirement and the form of the connection shaft (21). The oval slots (132) in the figures that are located in the connection head (13) are for fitting the connection shafts (21) of the medical cutters (20) having an oval shaped connection shaft (21). Therefore, the holder (10) is appropriate for medical cutters (20) that involve a connection shaft (21) in both oval and angular form.

In Figure 4, a view that shows the relationship of the inventive holder (10) with the medical cutter (20) having an oval shaped connection shaft (21) is given. Thus, the connection shaft (21) of the medical cutter (20) fully fits into the oval slots (132) of the holder (10). Therefore, the imbalances between the holder (10) and the cutter (20) are eliminated. Accordingly, the invention allows medical cutters (20), which have both angular and oval forms of connection shaft (21 ), to fit into the holders (10) fully.
