Abstract:
An image display serving to the maximum the function of effectively increasing the numerical aperture of a microlens array formed on an image displaying element and displaying a highly uniform, bright image with a high projection efficiency, characterized in that hologram elements (12-14) fabricated by allowing the object light which is a generally parallel beam to interfere with the reference light which has a wave front approximately equivalent to that of the output light beam from illuminating means for collecting and propagating a first light beam emitted from light emitting means, the object light is a generally parallel object beam is used, so that the image display is provided with means for illuminating the hologram elements, and image display displaying elements (6-8) for displaying an image by modulating the output light beams from the hologram elements, and that the image displaying element has microlens corresponding to the respective pixels, and each microlens has a function of focusing the incident beam almost onto an opening portion of a pixel.
