Abstract:
A hologram recording material suitable for volume hologram recording, which can attain high refractive index change, high sensitivity, low scattering, environmental resistance, durability, low dimensional change and high multiplicity; a process for producing the same; and a hologram recording medium. In particular, a hologram recording material comprising a metal oxide matrix and a photopolymerizable compound, wherein the metal oxide matrix has a halogenated organic group. The metal oxide matrix is produced by subjecting a metal alkoxide compound to hydrolysis and polymerization reaction. The metal alkoxide compound can be, for example, one of the general formula: (RH)mM(OR)n (1) wherein RH represents a halogenated organic group; R represents an alkyl; M represents a metal atom; m is 1 or 2; and m+n is the valence of metal atom M.
