Abstract:
A honeycomb structure having excellent mechanical strength, durability, and punching strength, characterized in that, when recesses and projections are formed on the outer peripheral surfaces of the honeycomb structure and a ceramic block and where the gravity center of a least squares curve based on points forming the profile of a cross section vertical to the longitudinal direction of the honeycomb structure is (c1), a distance between the concentric least circumscribing curve of the least squares curve having the gravity center (c1) and the gravity center (c1) is (D1), a distance between the concentric maximum inscribing curve of the least squares curve having the gravity center (c1) and the gravity center (c1) is (D2), and M1 = D1 - D2, 0.3mm ≤ M1 and where the gravity center of the least squares curve based on points forming the profile of a cross section vertical to the longitudinal direction of the ceramic block is (c2), a distance between the concentric least circumscribing curve of the least squares curve having the gravity center (c2) and the gravity center (c2) is (D3), a distance between the concentric inscribing curve of the least squares curve having the gravity center (c2) and the gravity center (c2) is (D4), and M2 = D3 - D4, 0.5mm ≤ M2 ≤ 7.0mm.
