Abstract:
A honeycomb structure being excellent in thermal dispersion performance at heating, and being effectively prevented from damage due to thermal stress; and an efficient production method thereof. The honeycomb structure comprises porous partition walls (3) and sealing portions (7), wherein fluid flowing into cells (4) can flow out via partition walls (3) working as filtering layers, additional sealing portions (8) disposed so as to seal non-sealed opening ends (5) are further provided at the opening ends (non-sealed opening ends) (5), where sealing portions (7) are not disposed, of a plurality of cells (4), the respective sectional shapes, in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction, of the additional sealing portions (8) constitute a specified pattern shape as a whole, and the center of gravity of the pattern shape is positioned almost in the center of a section in a direction perpendicular to a exhaust gas flow axial direction.
