A horizontal rotary drying machine having a classification function. A horizontal rotary drying machine provided with: a gas blowing-in means for blowing a carrier gas into a rotating tube (10) from one end side thereof and causing the gas to pass through within the rotating tube (10) and be discharged from the other end side; discharge openings (50) arranged in the circumferential direction in the end portion of the rotating tube (10) on the other end side thereof; an exhaust hood (55) provided so as to cover the entire end portion of the rotating tube (10) on the other end side; a fixed discharge opening (57) for a dried object, the fixed discharge opening (57) being provided in the lower part of the exhaust hood (55); a carrier gas discharge opening (56) in the upper part of the exhaust hood (55); groups of scoop-up plates (60) arranged in the longitudinal direction on the other end side of the rotating tube, the groups of scoop-up plates (60) extending from the inner wall of the rotating tube and arranged at intervals in the circumferential direction in which objects to be dried are scooped up as the rotating tube rotates.
