This hybrid drive system comprises: a centrifugal clutch mechanism (400) by which driving force of an internal combustion engine is transmitted to a centrifugal clutch rotor (420) when the rotation speed of the internal combustion engine is equal to or higher than a prescribed value; and a planetary gear mechanism (500) provided with a sun gear (501) that rotates integrally with a drive shaft (130), a ring gear (502) that rotates together with a rotor (210) of a rotary electric machine (200), and a planetary carrier (503) that rotates together with the centrifugal clutch rotor (420). In a third mode in which rotation of the rotary electric machine (200) is not used and the drive shaft (130) is caused to rotate using the driving force of the internal combustion engine, the rotation of the internal combustion engine is transmitted to the drive shaft (130) via the centrifugal clutch rotor (420), the planetary carrier (503), a planetary gear (504), and the sun gear (501). In the third mode, the rotor (210) of the rotary electrical machine (200) stops rotating due to rotation suppression torque generated by the attraction of a permanent magnet (212) to a stator (220).
