Abstract:
A hybrid inflator having excellent operating performance. The hybrid inflator, which is for expansion type safety systems for vehicles equipped with airbags, comprises an inflator housing, two gas generation chambers housed in the housing and containing a gas generator, and two ignition means chambers connected to the two gas generation chambers and having an ignition means, wherein that closed space within the inflator housing which is not occupied by the gas generation chambers and ignition means chambers is filled with liquefied CO2, the ratio of the number of moles of the liquefied CO2 to the number of moles of a non-azide gas generator is from 0.2 to 5, the amount of the liquefied CO2 packed is 0.6 to 3 mol, and the amount of the non-azide gas generator packed is 0.6 to 3 mol.
